Autodesk volo viewer express "this DWF file is a newer version that cannot be displayed"
This is a rather odd one that I ended up running across
The "this DWF file is a newer version that cannot be displayed" error I received in Volo viwer express 2.01 for a DFW file. Before that I was testing on a system with Volo Viewer express 1 and got an error that just said it could not open the file
Basically autodesk has released a new line of free viewers
The solution is to simply download and use the new version "Autodesk Design Reviewer 2009"
It is avaliable http://dwfcommunity.autodesk.com/products/autodesk-dwf-viewer.html here

VMWARE server not able to get writelock on vmdk file
After a power failure to one of my desktops I ran across this rather simple to resolve problems. When trying to power on a virtual machine (XP pro in this case) Vmware server complained that it could not get a lock on one of the snapshot vmdk file
The resolution
Navigate to the directory of the virtual machine (in my case /var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines/Windows XP Pro/) and delete the
*.READLOCK and *.WRITELOCK files (move just to be safe instead of deleting)
After that point I no longer received an error when booting
